Genre - rap
My chosen genre is rap which I personally like to listen to as I think each rapper is telling a story within their lyrics. Their lyrics really mean something to them and it is easy to relate to for people.
In this definition it refers to 'US black origin' and the rappers that are below are black American which conforms to the stereotype of the originality. Rap originates from the USA in the 1970's as a kind of street art, it was especially popular among African Americans who used rap as a way to express their thoughts or anger towards the inequality they experienced. However, by the 1980's white rap bands such as the Beastie Boys and female rap bands like Salt-n-Pepa were also reaching the top of the charts. However, there are white American and British rappers such as Eminem and Dappy from N-Dubz. Rap is a growing genre within the music industry, which nowadays often address provocative subjects such as sex, violence and social-political issues.
Target Audience
My target audience is aimed at both females and males between the ages of 16-22, which is the majority of people that listen to rap music. It is aimed at people who are keen rap listeners with interest within the industry and the up and coming stars of rap. Typically, the people who are keen on rap and listen to rap believe in the words of the rappers who tell a story in which they can relate to because the majority of rappers have a song in which many can relate to.
Rap is associated with festivals such as Parklife, Wireless, and V Festival where rappers such as Kanye West, Jay Z and Drake are often part of the line up. These festivals are targeted at men and women of the mid teens to early twenties age group. Parklife costs £79.50 for a weekend ticket, but £49.50 for a one day ticket. Wireless costs £65 a ticket for single days, whereas V festival costs £238 for the whole weekend with a bit extra for an earlybird ticket.

These three rappers target the same type of audience that my music magazine aims to target. Their albums sell mainly to the specific target audience I am aiming for. They are associated with the festivals above where the target audience for those festivals is the same.
The target audience of around 16-22 male and females also use social network sites such as Twitter and Instagram but also music sites such as Spotify and Soundcloud where they can listen to their preferred music genre and can share it with others using the same networks. These social networks promote festivals and gigs; the rappers above take to Twitter and Instagram to promote their tours and prompt their target audience to buy tickets to see them perform live.
I have chosen three people which have given their input and will evaluate my music magazine after it has been made. These three people are:
1.) Danny McNamara - Danny is a keen rap listener, and knows a lot about the rap industry. He explained to me that he expected to a variety of styles of rappers within the magazine; as this represents true rap magazine, which he reads a lot of. He will also help me with evaluation points when I have made my rap magazine.
2.) Myles Ellis- Myles listens and reads rap everyday. Not only is he a keen listener and reader, he often writes rap in his spare time as he is very passionate about it. He has offered advice similar to Danny's, for me to put in my magazine; he expects me to include different dressed rappers as well as rappers with a different personality, ones that may not conform to the rap stereotype.
3.) Grace McGrand - Grace is less keen on rap compared to the others, but does listen and read rap. She has suggested that in a rap magazine, she expects to see new upcoming rappers or information about new artists. She likes to be kept up to date with what is happening within the industry.
