Evaluation 1

In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms And Conventions Of Real Media Products?

  • One way in which my magazine uses the forms and conventions of real media products is that the front cover only has one model.  This is used by a lot of real media magazines as it makes it less busy and therefore; attracts the target audience as it is more eye catching.
  • The colour scheme of the magazine also uses the forms and conventions of real media products.  This is because my research shows that the magazines have used 3/4 colours and my magazine front page has used 4 colours that work well together and give my magazine an eye catching look.
  • The layout of my front page also uses the forms and conventions of real media products because I have not used hanging widows, which is a vital mistake in magazine making.  This is a convention that is avoided as it makes the layout of the magazine look weak and amateur.

  • My contents page has sections which I believe makes it easier to read and makes it more reader friendly.  This idea is used by a lot of real media products as it is easy to read and attracts the younger target audience more as they typically like pages that does not require them to think hard.
  • The page numbers are something that are used by all real media products as this makes it much easier to navigate their way around the magazine.  It allows the reader to understand what page something is on and allows them to get to it quick.
  • The images used in this product also use the forms and conventions of real media products because many media products have more than one image on the contents page as it gives it a taste of what is to come in either the actual magazine or the next edition of the magazine.
  • The colour scheme has remained the same as on the front page but I have added some brown in the title as it is the complimentary colour to blue.  This is something that real media products do as it shows consistency and continuity but also gives the magazine a more serious feel to it.

  • A convention that is commonly used in real media products in the double page spread is the two colours used in the writing.  The questions are in a different colour than the answers which emphasises the difference makes it more interesting to read and look at.
  • Something that is very rarely not used in real media products is page numbers.  I have used these because I think it is professional but if page numbers are not shown it is harder for readers to find what they want.  It also emphasises the fact that it is a magazine and not a poster.
  • The title at the top of the page is also something that all real media products use in their magazines.  This is done because it tells the readers what the following article is all about and allows them to make a decision on whether to read it or not.
Therefore; overall all of my media products use forms and convention of real media products.
